SARS REGISTERED REPRESENTATIVE APPOINTMENT

What Is a registered representative?

 

A registered representative is a person who is appointed with full rights to act on behalf of another legal entity 

Every Company/Close Corporation which conducts business or has an office in South Africa must, within one month thereof appoint a representative as the Public Officer of the Company. The relevant particulars of the representative must be furnished to a SARS branch.

 

How to add yourself as the SARS Registered Representative of a company?

 

First, you must acquire the following:

 

  1. A copy of your company registration document (COR 14.3)

  2. A copy of your ID (smart card requires both sides)

  3. A clear photo of yourself holding your ID and a note that written "update my details" (View Sample), and your proof of address.

  4. Proof of your personal physical address to upload aswell, less than 3 months old

  5. Appointment letter signed by all directors and appointed registered representative. (View Sample)

  6. Your personal income tax number will be required on the appointment letter, if you do not know it, you can "request it here"

 

Once the above requirements are gathered. You can proceed with the below steps:

 

  1. Visit the link: "Appoint Registered Representative" to complete the form with all relevant details of the company

  2. Once filled click the "documents" button at the bottom of the page and upload all the gathered required documents as mentioned above.

  3. Click submit button, enter the captcha code, and click the validate button to submit.

 

 

After the request has been submitted, SARS will email you a reference number for confirmation.

 

The process can take up to 21 working days for the registered representative to be appointed. You will receive a conclusion email from SARS once approved.
